How do you match me with support workers?
While we’re preparing all your documentation with you to apply for SIL, we ask you questions about what kind of support you need. We make sure that any staff we shortlist for you are able to help you with the clinical and social assistance you need. You can be involved in interviewing if you want to, and either way, we do a meet-and-greet before you move into the house.
How do you make sure my housemates suit me?
While we’re preparing all the documentation with you to apply for SIL, we ask you questions about what kind of home you want to live in. We make sure that there are no risks – for example, we never match people with complex medical needs with others who have behavioral support needs. We encourage you to look at a couple of the houses we have available, and meet all your potential housemates before you sign any service agreements with us. We also have house meetings every week, so we can make sure everyone is getting along and there are no problems brewing.

How do I get NDIS respite care?
Respite care is called short term accommodation (STA) under NDIS. You can read more about it here. If you have funding for STA, it will be in your core budget. If you don’t have funding for STA, ask your support coordinator, planner or LAC if you’re eligible. You may need a plan review if you’re agency or plan managed.

How long does it take to get SDA?
It can take up to 20 hours of occupational therapy time to get all the documentation you need to apply for SDA. Once all that documentation goes to the NDIA, it can take anywhere between a few weeks longer: Please check the NDIS Participant Service Guarantee | NDIS on approximation of decision time frames.
Am I eligible for SDA?
The answer is: “maybe”! To be eligible for SDA, you first need to have a goal in your NDIS plan that relates to housing, you need to have complex and high mobility needs, and you need to have tried other forms of accommodation – the NDIA will ask for evidence of this. You (or your support coordinator) then need to approach an SDA provider, put together some documentation including a full assessment from an occupational therapist, and apply to the NDIA. To find out more please contact us. Here is the NDIA’s information on Specialist disability accommodation | NDIS.
